There is tons of jargon and babble these days about "change". This verbalization is in a context which indicates the direction we have been going is not good and we need to change course. The motivation behind this idea being -- if we keep doing the same things we have been doing we will continue to see the same results and the current results are not acceptable!
Therefore, change is urgently being called for and there even seems to be the willingness to try most anything to find what change will work. Some would say, "desperate times calls for desperate measures!"
But of course everyone is clueless as to where all of these instigated changes are going to take us. However, if we keep living we'll see for ourselves where all these changes will take us. The key seems to be keep living! There is lots of speculation about where these changes will lead but only time will separate the fact from the fiction as to what our true destination will be based on these current changes.
Yet there is Another who has called constantly for "change" since the beginning and often times this voice calling for change goes unheeded. This Agent of change offers a way to change our future by changing the manner in which we live.
Mankind wants a secure financial future but gives little thought to having a secure eternal future and thus lives life accordingly. As the reality of a bleak financial future comes into focus there is panic and the call for change goes out to redirect our path so as to secure ourselves financially as though financial security is the only thing which really matters in life.
In America today, financial security has become an idol! The proof of this is seen in the knee jerk reactions of mankind when their sense of financial security is slowly or quickly stripped away to nothing. There is panic and the call goes out loudly for more "change"!
For most, when the reality of not having a secure eternal future sets in, it will be to late. It'll be like the rich man we find in scripture who like all men died one day and then found himself in a totally new environment. How's that for "change"? He was now in an environment where wealth and the security wealth affords was doing him no good at all. He was suffering and in pain and no one to care for him or help him and even his wealth was of no avail in meeting his apparent needs. He then realized his current state, unlike his former state, was now a permanent state and then real panic reigned. When he found he could not even get someone to cool his tongue from this state of torment his attention then turned to his brothers who were traveling the same road and he knew without a doubt, without some real change, they would suffer the same fate. But, again it was to late for him. He could not make any changes to alter the course of his brothers who would one day be joining him if they didn't change their ways.
Now, is the time to secure one's eternal future. To do this one must be changed. One must be changed by the only One who can make the required changes our lives need to secure our eternal future. This Agent of change is Christ Jesus. He's not trying to secure us financially. He wants to do us even better and secure us eternally. There is something worse than losing financially and that is to lose eternally!
Isn't this a form of "change" we could all use?
